I'm Thomas Abate, a Technical Game / Level Designer who discovered his vocation after reading Marc Albinet's work on game design, a reading that crystallised a simple belief: "the heart of our craft lies in the experience lived by the player."
I specialise in rapid prototyping inside Unreal Engine 5: test early, fail fast, and pivot even faster. Every mechanic I design starts as a blueprint meant to be discarded, reworked, and refined until the intended feeling lands for the player.
Whether I'm engineering a luminance-based stealth detection system, crafting a velocity-driven VFX feedback loop, or designing a 1-week Game Jam experience, I approach each project through three pillars: precise 3C design, systemic thinking, and obsessive attention to game feel.
Prototyping is also a communication tool: a way to test concepts against reality, align a team around a shared vision, and validate decisions before investing in full production.
I'm currently completing my Master's degree in Game Design at ARTFX and open to discussing opportunities aligned with team needs.
