Hello, I'm Thomas Abate, a Technical Game / Level Designer who discovered his vocation after reading Marc Albinet's "Concevoir un jeu vidéo", a reading that crystallised a simple belief : "the heart of our craft lies in the experience lived by the player."
I specialise in rapid prototyping inside Unreal Engine 5 : test early, fail fast, and pivot even faster. Every mechanic I design starts as a blueprint meant to be discarded, reworked, and refined until the intended feeling lands for the player.
Prototyping is also a communication tool : a way to test concepts against reality, align a team around a shared vision, and validate decisions before investing in full production.
I bring a strong sense of rigour to everything I do : I pay close attention to details, structure my work carefully, and make sure each decision is intentional. A mechanic, a level, or a system isn't done until it truly works the way it's meant to.
I also believe deeply in playtesting. Sharing my work with teammates, players, and anyone willing to give honest feedback is an essential part of my process. It keeps me grounded, challenges my assumptions, and consistently leads to better results.
I recently completed my Master's degree in Game Design at ARTFX and am now actively looking for opportunities aligned with team needs.
You can find my CV in both French and English, and discover the skills and competencies I've built over the past few years.
I'd be genuinely happy to talk about how I work, what drives my design decisions, and my vision of what makes a great player experience. Feel free to reach out.
